Example #1: Assume the sampled mechanized mining unit (MMU) or designated area (DA) is on a /m3 dust standard. Suppose a valid representative dust sample with an equivalent concentration 3of mg/m contains % of quartz dust, which corresponds to a quartz concentration of 138 µg/ concentration exceeds the 100 µg/m3 limit for quartz.

Coal Mine Safety Dust Carmeuse

Coal Mine Safety Dust Carmeuse

Milled limestone, referred to as "rock dust" by the coal industry, is an additive used for safety in underground bituminous coal mines. The particles of the milled limestone mix with coal dust to prevent a potential explosion. Rock dust is blown or sprayed (as a slurry) onto the roof, ribs and floor of the mine, and needs to be reapplied on a regular basis to maintain its effectiveness.

Mine dust is a major occupational hazard. Some types of dust (coal, schist, sulfur, sulfide) can also, under certain conditions, form an explosive mixture with air. Dust is dangerous because it can damage the lungs and living tissue by coarsefiber connective tissue; it can also lead to diseases of the upper respiratory tracts, eyes, and skin.

Coal Dust Remediation

Coal Dust Remediation

Coal dust is generated most during mining and crushing, and if suppressed immediately, there is a minimized need to collect and further process fugitive dust. There are a variety of spray systems available to suppress dust as it's made. Since coal is a hydrophobic material, meaning it is not attracted to water, various chemicals are often ...

The rock dust applied can function as isolator, physical heat sink and chemical energy absorber that prevent the settled coal dust from participating into explosion and reduce the total thermal energy contained in the explosion event. Through such functions, the rock dust can either stop a coal mine explosion process or reduce its intensity.
